Topic Keyman Desktop Light 7.1 not running with Word 2010 in Windows 7

I have helped two friends to install and use Keyman Desktop Light 7.1. They have Windows 7, Home and Pro versions. Keyman is working fine with Paratext 7.1 but not with Microsoft Word 2010. Keyman is doubling or tripling every keystroke. If they type ‘a’ they get ‘aa’ or ‘aaa’ or ‘aaaa’ etc. It is multiplying characters when they try to use Word 2010 with Keyman. The one person is using OpenOffice Writer without problems. Keyman is not working with WordPad at all.

I tested my Keyman 7.1. Professional with Word 2010. It worked fine, but I use Windows Vista Professional.

It is pity that they cannot use Keyman for Word 2010. They really need it.

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?

We use Keyman Desktop 7.1 with Word 2010 regularly here without problems. We have had a report of this issue from another customer but we never heard back from them -- could you start by sending us a diagnostic report from your friend's computer? The WordPad issue sounds like your friend is running Windows 7 x64. You can learn some workarounds for this issue at http://www.tavultesoft.com/forums/topic.php?ForumTopicID=249&ForumPostID=918#ForumPost_918

For a full fix, the version 8.0 beta release fully supports x64 and should work fine with Wordpad on Windows 7 x64, and is downloadable at http://www.tavultesoft.com/beta/

We will try with Keyman 8. I will report soon, if it is working or not. Sometimes System Restore has solved this problem.

Now all four Keymans are working! We solved these Keyman problems by Windows 7 System Restores in two cases. The third friend tried first Keyman 8 but it didn't help. Then I modified a bit her Keyman file I had created. I choose the right font, Charis SIL, what my friend is using. Now her Keyman is working. The fourth friend sent an email that now her Keyman is working after her winter holiday. We did nothing! Perhaps Windows 7 updates solved her Keyman problem. Thanks, Marc, for your hints.

i recently installed windows 7 64 bit and ms office 2010 64 bit.
my licence for keyman light 7.1 didnt work in ms word 2010 64 bit. i tried the beta of keyman 8 and it worked. how to proceed when the 30 day trial of the beta is over?

There are a few ways to proceed -- if you are an existing licensed user of Keyman 7.1, drop an email to [email protected] and we'll organise upgrade pricing -- as the upgrade pricing is not online yet.

Otherwise you can purchase a license through the program now (and get a second license free -- this offer is only available during the beta!), or you can extend your evaluation for another 30 days as described in the http://www.tavultesoft.com/beta/ page, which again is available only while the beta program is in effect.

I recently upgraded to MS Word version 2010 and then upgraded Tavultesoft Keyman to version 7.1 Lite a few days ago. I am now experiencing the same problem with Keyman doubling or tripling every keystroke (for example, Greek s???, which types out perfectly in this message and other programs, comes out as ssaa????? typing in Word). I am using Windows Vista Professional 32 bit, so this is not a Windows 7 or a 64-bit problem in my case.

Any further ideas? I will try to send a diagnostic report.
