Keyman shell integration corrupted - unable to install?? on Dec 14 2005 6:32AM,
Have a similar error except mine does not end with "Unknown trust provider", instead it ends at the colon thus:
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\KMT11C5.TMP\FREE_KMSHELL.EXE has been corrupted. Please contact Tavultesoft for help (http://www.tavultesoft.com/keyman/support/). The error returned was -2146762486 - Certificate is invalid:
I have read the KB item KMKB0012: HOWTO: Resolve errors when installing Keyman http://www.tavultesoft.com/kb/index.php?KnowledgeBaseID=12
and followed the steps except rather than just being three certificates to install from the root folder there are about 7. I installed all 7 plus the other ones as detailed in the KB article.
I still get the same error message, I have rebooted afer installing the certificates, scanned for and removed spyware, my antivirus is up to date. I am running Win 98.
There is obviously a deeper problem on this machine, possibly to do with the certificates as Windows Update will not work either.
Do you have any tips or pointers?
TIA,
Karl

Tavultesoft Tavultesoft Staff | Hi Karl,
That Knowledge Base article is actually a bit out of date -- we've updated the article to include a new section on the more recent builds of Keyman 6.2 Please go through the newly-added part of the article: http://www.tavultesoft.com/kb/index.php?KnowledgeBaseID=12 Also, here is a link to an updated version of the root certificate for Windows 98: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/rootsupd.exe If neither of the above works, please contact us again and we'll try some other things. Kind regards, Paul Durdin |

Karl | Thanks for your quick response Paul,
I'm not working tomorrow but I'll give this a try on Monday all going well. |

Karl | Hi again paul,
I have followed the addtional steps in the instruction for installing certificates. The only class 3 cert there seemed to install OK. I downloaded rootsupd.exe with the link you gave and ran it. The resultant error message is "The C:\mydownloads\rootsupd.exe file expects a newer version of Windows. Upgarade your Windows version." So I guess they have replaced the Win 98 file with another. I have been googling rootsupd.exe win98 but haven't come up with anything yet. Any further help is appreciated. Best, Karl |

Karl | Oh yeah, I tried installing Keyman again after installing the cert, same error as before. |

Tavultesoft Tavultesoft Staff | Hi Karl,
Are you running Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE? Kind regards, Paul |

Karl | Hi Paul,
It's 98 SE. Thanks Karl |

Tavultesoft Tavultesoft Staff | Hi Karl,
It sounds like there may be more of a problem than just the certificates. With Windows Update not running, it's hard to know what to suggest. You could try Keyman Desktop Light 7.0 rather than Keyman 6.2 Home; I won't make any guarantees, but it is possible it will work where Keyman 6.2 won't. You can download it, and view the system requirements, at: http://www.tavultesoft.com/70/download.php This is not an ideal solution for you, unfortunately. Kind regards, Paul Durdin |

Karl | OK, thanks for your help Paul, I'll try tracking this windows update thing not working a bit further and see if I can get something there.
Best, Karl |

Karl | Hi Paul,
I found a fix so I thought I'd post it back here for anyone else following behind: "What you will need to do is re-register the following files using the regsvr32 command (ie. regsvr32 filename.fil) in the command prompt : softpub.dll, wintrust.dll, initpki.dll, ssenh.dll, saenh.dll, gpkcsp.dll, sccbase.dll, slbcsp.dll, mssip32.dll, cryptdlg.dll Note that a few of those files won't be found in windows 98 but for windows xp." Source: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t25884.html Thanks to Google the Oracle! This fixed Windows Update and Keyman installation.[/url] |
